Q: I have a bunch of tapes, and I'm not sure how much material is on them.  How much do you charge per hour?

A: Our normal price structure is per tape.  In special circumstances, where you have many tapes with small amounts on each tape, I will discount for combining multiple tapes onto DVD.  For each DVD I don't have to use, I'll deduct $5.00 from the total.

Q: How long will it take you to process my order?

A: We complete most orders within 48 hours from the drop off time.  Some larger orders may take longer.  Please click this link to email us for a timeframe.

Q: How much video can you fit on a DVD?

A: A DVD can hold up to 2 hours of video in DVD format, which is 720x480.  You can fit more if you compress the video, but this degrades the quality further, and we advise against it.

Q: I have some old movies on VHS that aren't available on DVD.  Can you convert them for me?

A: We are unable to convert copyrighted material.

Q: What is the difference between interlaced and progressive?

A: Interlaced video is inherent in analog broadcast video.  The resolution is not measured in pixels, but rather in lines of resolution.  Instead of frames, you have fields.  Progressive is more like Film.  Each frame represents it's own image, and they pass like a flip book.

Q: Can I edit the DVD disks?

A: It is possible to edit the MPEG-2 files within the DVD, however these are compressed from their original format, and for the best quality final product, it's recommended to use uncompressed video, which we can provide upon request.

Q: Can you customize the DVD menus?

A: We can create chapters based on time, as in, every 5, 10 or 15 minutes.  We can also allow software to look at the video for scene changes and make chapters at those change locations.

Q: Can you provide HD video files of my Super8 Reels?

A: We capture the frames at 1440x1080 pixels, which includes some border.  We'd be happy to crop the border and export your video in the size you need.

Q: Why should I use your service over someone else?

A: Solid Gold Memories is committed to providing you the absolute best product.  We treat every video as if it were our own irreplacable heirloom.  Years of experience and extensive experimentation/engineering have helped us to rise to the top.  You will be completely satisfied.
